short-term missions trips

Something happens to us when we get out of our comfort zone and participate in what God is doing in other countries. While it is our hope and prayer that we will be a blessing to those we visit, we always seem to return from these trips realizing how much more we received from the experience than what we gave. Somehow, our view of God and His kingdom is enlarged. Here at First Covenant, we offer a variety of opportunities for people to experience cross-cultural missions.

Mexicali: For over 20 years we have developed relationships with numerous churches in this border town of Mexico. Mexicali is a great introductory experience for youth and adults. High school and college students form the core of the group that travels south of the border each year during spring break. Teams work with local churches to provide Vacation Bible School programs for children, athletic events and concerts for youth, family worship services, outreach events, and community service projects. Although the focus of Mexicali is on the students, you don’t have to be a student to participate! Adults are needed for base camp, kitchen crew, construction team, drivers, translators, and team leader coaches. A men’s team visits a nearby prison to share testimonies and prayer. A group of our seniors work with elderly residents in a nursing home and with the senior ministries of local churches. Applications are available in the fall for students and adults. Save the dates: April 15-23, 2011.

Guatemala: This nearby neighbor is a nation of contrasts, with a growing middle class but also extreme poverty. Pastor Howard Andruejol is our host who connects us with multiple ministries including Tita Evertsz and Lemonade International, an organization which provides Christian education and other compassionate ministries to the children and families of La Limonada, one of the poorest sections of Guatemala City. High school, college and family teams can serve in Guatemala.

Colombia: Long-time Covenant missionaries Gary and Marylou Sander are our hosts in this South American nation. Mission opportunities include construction/work projects, evangelism, youth work and much more. Men’s and women’s teams are sent to this location.

Thailand: A beautiful culture with beautiful people, this nation possesses one of the most horrific prostitution industries in the world. Our Women’s Ministries has established a relationship with Rahab Ministries, an organization that is offering alternatives to girls and women caught in the sex-trade. Lives are changed with the message of hope and freedom found in Christ!

India: We are currently working at establishing a team of people who will live in Northern India long-term with the purpose of sharing the love of Jesus with the many unreached Muslim people groups that live there. We offer vision trips to this incredible region to help our First Cov family gain a better understanding of the rich cultures and traditions of the people we hope to influence with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
